In June 1906, the house was lavishly furnished according to the Rostand couple's tastes. But after Edmond's death, this furniture was dispersed in 1922 during a large auction that lasted ten days.
It was a completely empty house that the Commune of Cambo-les-Bains bought in 1961.
The town hall and the conservation team studied the list drawn up by the auctioneer in 2022 as well as photos of the interior of the Villa during the Rostand era and contacted the Mobilier national in order to find similar furniture in its collections.
This collaboration, which began in 2021, has resulted in the selection of 60 pieces of furniture which will join the Villa Arnaga in March 2023, under a consignment agreement.
This collaboration allows for the re-installation of furnishings worthy of this magnificent residence. It also provides an opportunity to highlight the original furniture chosen by the Rostands and the eclecticism of their tastes: Empire, Directoire, Louis XV, and other styles are all represented. Villa Arnaga now stands as a true showcase of the decorative arts, both in its decor and its furnishings. Each room presents a different theme, inviting visitors on a journey through the history of art.
